Ch 46 **the next Monday** *England* [Joe was making his nightly trip to the ice machine. He did it every night, not really because they needed ice, but because he was bored, and he liked to be alone for those few minutes while he filled up the ice bucket. But as he rounded the corner to the vending machines and ice maker, he saw he wasn’t alone. A girl about his age was filling her ice bucket. His feet made noise as he hit the tiled floor, and she looked up. When she saw him her jaw dropped along with her ice bucket, and ice was spilled all over the floor. He smiled, and she still stood there, gapping at him.] J: Hi, I’m Joe. [He tried not to laugh as she shook his extended hand, still shocked.] ??: I....Im..Melissa. J: Nice to meet you. [He glanced down at the floor.] M: Oh! [She dropped to her knees and began picking up the ice cubes. Joe decided to help her.] Y-you dont have to. J: Haha its fine. So..you dont have an accent. Where are you from? M: New York City. J: Me too. M: You are? J: Uh..yeah, why? M: I..well I..[She sighed.] Im a pretty big fan, actually. [She blushed.] & I hadnt heard that youd moved. J: Yeah well, we were trying to keep it on the down low. M: Oh. I see. J: Yeah. So what are you doing in London? [All the ice had been picked up, but he stayed sitting on the floor.] M: My aunt lives here. She got married this weekend. Were actually going back tomorrow. J: Oh. Thats cool. M: Yeah-[Suddenly she jumped as her cell phone vibrated. She pulled it out of her pocket and looked at the screen, then giggled.] I didnt realize wed been talking for so long. My dad wants to know how long it takes to get ice. J: Oh, yeah, I should probably get back too. [He stood up and offered her his hand.] M: Thanks. J: But um..it was nice meeting you. Maybe Ill see you around the city. Or.. M: Or what? [She couldnt believe Joe Jonas had just said theyd see each other. What else would he surprise her with?] J: Or maybe I could get your number and we could hang out when I get back. [Melissa screamed internally as Joe put her number into his phone. When they parted ways, she was almost hyperventilating. Joe walked back into the room 5 minutes later. Kevin was watching tv and Nick was stretched out on the couch with his cell phone on his stomach. They looked up as Joe closed the door.] K: Did you break the ice machine again? J: Hah, no. But..there was already someone there. I had to wait. [He didnt want the guys nagging him about another girl. Just because she was nice and they exchanged numbers didnt mean anything was going on, but he knew theyd jump to conclusions. Besides, was it any of their business if he wanted to keep his options open? In the time this short exchange had taken, Joe noticed Nick pick up his phone at least twice.] J: Who are you texting? K: Ill give you one guess. J: Oh. Shoulda known haha [Nick rolled his eyes. But they were right. He pressed send and another text went to Alyse.] *w/Alyse* [Her phone vibrated, and she flipped it open to read her latest message from Nick. Deanna, who was sitting beside her, leaned over to read it.] D: Jeeze, thats like 20 messages in the past 5 mintues I swear. A: Thats cuz you cant count [She jumped as another name was called up to audition. She’d been texting Nick ever since they had learned the piece they were auditioning with and had been seated to wait their turn. They had been called up alphabetically for the past half hour, and they were only on the Ls. Her phone vibrated again, and she calmed down as she read Nick’s text.] N: Oh please, you dont need luck ;) A: Well we all cant be as cocky as you haha [Haley was sitting behind them, in the row of singers. She leaned forward and whispered to Alyse.] H: Can you tone down the vibrater? Im trying to memorize these lyrics. D: You dont have to memorize it. H: I know, but its more impressive. D: I thought having a Jonas brother as a boyfriend was your latest attempt to impress? [She teased.] H: Whats that supposed to mean? D: It means, Alyse always talks to Nick. You havent talked to Joe since they left. H: He hasnt called me either. [She shot back.] D: Oh right, and you just sit by the phone all day, waiting for him to call. I wonder what hed do if he knew Riley waited with you? [Haley shot Deanna an evil glare and sat back in her seat.] A: Whos Riley? [She whispered so Haley couldnt hear.] D: Haleys- (J-Judge) J: Deanna Livingston. [Deanna forgot what she was saying and shot out of her seat and up to the stage. When she got back she had forgotten what she was going to say. Then it was Alyse’s turn. Before she went, she checked her phone again. New Message from Nick: Youll do fine. I believe in you.] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ok, last one for tonight. probably only one tomorrow, sorry, but it's HOMECOMING!! haha so yeah hope you liked! & we had our 4th game tonight, we won 18-0!were now 3-1
