Paul Simon - Duncan

Back

Couple in the next room Bound to win a prize They've been going at it all night long When I'm trying to get some sleep But these motel walls are cheap. Lincoln Duncan is my name And here's my song Here's my song. My father was a fisherman My mama was a fisherman's friend And I was born in the boredom and the chowder So when I reached my prime I left my home in the maritimes Headed down the turnpike for New England Sweet New England. Holes in my confidence Holes in the knees of my jeans It's left without a penny in my pocket Ooo wee I's about as destituted as a kid could be And I wished I wore a ring So I could hock it I'd like to hock it. A young girl in a Parking lot Was preaching to a crowd Singing sacred songs and reading from the Bible Well I told her I was lost And she told me all about the Pentecost And I seen that girl as the road to my survival. Just later on the very same night When I crept to her tent with a flashlight And my long years of innocence ended Well she took me to the woods saying "Here comes something and it feels so good!" And just like a dog. I was befriended I was befriended. Oh, oh, what a night Oh what a garden of delight Even now that sweet memory lingers I was playing my guitar Lying underneath the stars Just thanking the Lord for my fingers For my fingers. In 1965, Simon knew the folkloric group "Los Incas" (Had a long journey, enhanced by the contribution of many musicians from various countries who formed) in the same scene in which it acted, the "Theatre of the L'Est Parisienne", in Paris. Paul Simon wrote the lyric of "El Condor Pasa (If I Could)" from a song (this song was based on a ancient Andean melody) contained in a zarzuela "El Condor Pasa" composed by Daniel Alomías Robles in 1913; and with the compained of "Los Incas" recorded this song. In fact, in the credits of "El Condor Pasa (If I Could)", that appeared in the album "Bridge Over Troubled Water"(1970), their name is briefed. For his album "Paul Simon"(1972), the North American composer contracted the same group, that already was called "Urubamba"; and with their "quena", "charango", "antara" and "bombo", accompany in "Duncan". Then they was invited to participate in a Tour. The versions appear in "Paul Simon in Concert Live Rhymin", that was published in February of 1974. and "Paul Simon In Concert Live Composin' a songwriter and the Band with Urubamba and The Jessy Dion Singers" recorded live at Tokyo Budokan in 20 February 1974. The leader of group "Los Incas" then "Urubamba" is Mr. Jorge Milchberg.
